L’Institut des sciences de la mer de Rimouski (ISMER), un centre de recherche multidisciplinaire en océanographie, est à la recherche d’un nouveau professeur en chimie marine. Le candidat choisi devra être spécialisé en chimie inorganique marine. Les domaines d’expertise recherchés sont les biogéocycles marins, la nanochimie environnementale marine, ou les isotopes stables comme traceurs, les estuaires et les environnements côtiers. Il sera encouragé à développer son propre secteur de recherche et sera amené à collaborer avec les géologues, les physiciens et les biologistes de l’ISMER et de l’UQAR. La personne retenue devra être en mesure de participer aux programmes de maîtrise et de doctorat en océanographie par l’encadrement d’étudiants aux cycles supérieurs. La langue de travail est le français.

Au moment de l’embauche, le candidat devra détenir un doctorat dans une discipline pertinente (océanographie chimique, géochimie marine, chimie environnementale marine; sciences de la terre ou discipline connexe avec activités de recherche en chimie ou géochimie marine, chimie analytique marine), au moins une année d’expérience postdoctorale et un solide dossier de publications.

La date limite de candidature est le  13 avril 2018 pour une prise de fonction en juin 2018.

The Institut des Sciences de la Mer de Rimouski (ISMER), is looking for a candidate to fill a regular faculty position in marine chemistry, specialized in inorganic marine chemistry. The candidate’s expertise should include in estuaries and coastal environments systems, marine biogeocycles, stable isotops or environmental nanochemistry.

The successful candidate should demonstrate expertise in field research. He/she will be encouraged to develop his/her own research program, and collaborate with biologists, chemists, physicists and geologists from the Institute and the University. He or she must be able to contribute to the M.Sc. and PhD programs through teaching and graduate student supervision. Working language is French. While all applications will be considered, with equal qualifications, priority will be given to candidates able to work in French.

The candidate must have a PhD in Marine chemistry, marine geochemistry, marine environmental chemistry, geosciences, or related field with research activities in marine chemistry or geochemistry, analytical marine chemistry.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintenance and care of the weather office area,
  • Preparation of weather briefing for placement on NFTC LAN as required,
  • Ensuring all Air Information Services (AIS) observations and records are accurate,
  • Performing flight information and NOTAM dissemination,
  • Operate within ISO procedures for Serco and AIS section,
  • Operate and work within Serco OHS&E program,
  • Actively follow all Serco general administration procedures,
  • Follow applicable Serco financial and purchase procedures.
  • Prior Permission Request processing
  • Log and disseminate UFO and Sensitive Flight calls
  • Coordinate the supply of aeronautical maps and flight publication to Aircrews.
  • Participate in other duties relates to AIS Management.
  • Participate in the Quality Management Program.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential

  • Formal training of Met Tech QL6A, Tactical Weather Specialist within the Canadian Forces or equivalent, Environment Canada Presentation Course or Observer within Nav Canada.
  • Must be able to obtain Reliability Status security clearance.

Desirable

  • Should possess training and experience in operating meteorological processing and display systems, and all meteorological equipment.

The University of Manitoba invites applications for a Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier 2, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor, in the area of sea ice modeling.

The Government of Canada has established the CRC program to enable Canadian universities to foster world-class research excellence. The proposed CRCs align with the University's strategic research plan that identifies Arctic System Science as a targeted area.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS; http://www.umanitoba.ca/ceos/). With more than 135 researchers, students and staff, including one Canada Excellence Research Chair and two existing CRCs (both Tier 1), CEOS is one of the most influential Arctic marine research groups in the world. CEOS’ research is supported by a purpose-built Nellie Cournoyea Arctic Research Facility; laboratories for environmental and material sciences and applied electromagnetics; the Sea-ice Environmental Research Facility (SERF); the Churchill Marine Observatory (CMO); a new costal research vessel RV William Kennedy; the CCGS Amundsen icebreaker; and numerous field stations across the Arctic. The Arctic Science Partnership (http://asp-net.org/) between CEOS, the Arctic Research Centre at Aarhus University (Denmark), and the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources provides added opportunity for networking. Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a rigorous, independently funded research program, and play a major role in various large-scale collaborative Arctic marine programs at the University of Manitoba. http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/environment/departments/ceos/research/projects.html.

The Chair will have a reduced teaching and administrative load, but is expected to contribute to undergraduate and or graduate teaching in the area of Arctic System Science. 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. and proven success in a highly productive track record of academic output, and a record of mentorship of undergraduate, graduate and/or postdoctoral level trainees. Outstanding applicants with internationally recognized expertise in the broad fields of regional or global ocean-sea ice-atmosphere (OSA) modeling may apply. The candidate may have experience/expertise with model development but in particular should have experience with the application of sea ice models in climate studies of OSA related processes. Model experience can be with coupled ocean-sea ice models forced with a prescribed atmosphere or it can be a fully OSA coupled model. Candidates with expertise in coupled hydrological-marine modeling and glacier-marine modeling are also encouraged to apply.

The selected candidate must compete successfully for the Tier 2 Chair award that supports the position. Applicants must be exceptional emerging scholars with less than 10 years of experience as an active researcher since obtaining their terminal degree at the time of nomination. Tier 2 Chairs are valued at $100,000 per year for 5 years with an option to renew once.  Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave) will have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. Chairs are awarded by the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat. The appointment will be conditional on a successful Canada Research Chair nomination.
