Position Summary:

The Dalhousie Regional Ocean Modelling Group in the Department of Oceanography in Halifax is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate for development and applications of an integrative ocean modelling system for the northwest Atlantic Ocean.  The candidate will be part of a multi-institute research team funded by the Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI) and contribute significantly to all aspects of research and development of an advanced ocean circulation-ice-wave modelling system. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and calibrate a nested-grid ocean current-ice-wave modelling system for the eastern Canadian shelf.
  • Simulate atmospheric and oceanic conditions and extreme events over the region in the past and future using the modelling system.
  • Contribute to project coordination and collaboration within Module F of OFI.
  • Disseminate research results through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at conferences.

Qualifications:

PhD in Oceanography with minimum six years of relevant research experience with demonstrated skills in numerical model development and data analyses. Must have significant knowledge and research experience in ocean and atmospheric boundary layer turbulent parameterizations and air-sea interactions under extreme weather conditions along with significant experience in processing and calibrating satellite remote sensing data. Ability to effectively communicate research results with colleagues and to publish in international journals.

 

Status: 40 hours/week   

Pay Scale: $45,000-$55,000 per annum (plus additional benefits)

Duration: 2-year term with possibility of renewal
