The  CMOS The Weather Network/MétéoMédia Undergraduate Scholarship
The  CMOS The Weather Network/MétéoMédia Undergraduate Scholarship is  awarded to a female student applying while in her penultimate year of an atmospheric science program at a Canadian university who intends to pursue a career in the fields of meteorology or atmospheric science. 
  
The scholarship of $1,500 is to support the student in her final year.

Applicants must be Canadian citizens or have landed immigrant/permanent resident status.

The successful applicant will be selected on the basis of:
  1. good academic standing (not failing any courses and have an average of 75% or more)
  2. an indication of career aspiration in the fields of meteorology or atmospheric sciences

This scholarship was first awarded in 2004.  
CMOS The Weather Network/MétéoMédia Scholarship Application Instructions

Applications are to be  received no later than 15 March   by the Awards Coordinator at e-mail:   awards-coord@cmos.ca   or the Society postal address to be considered by the selection Committee. There is no special form. The following is required:

  1. A cover letter clearly indicating that this is an application for the CMOS The Weather Network/MétéoMédia Scholarship.  This letter should include a current civic address, phone number(s) and e-mail address of the applicant. If it is likely the applicant will be changing address during the year, it is suggested that a more permanent address and telephone number (e.g., home) be included as well.
  2. The letter should confirm Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant/permanent resident status.
  3. A transcript of academic studies.
  4. A statement of interest in pursuing a career in meteorology or atmospheric sciences. 
  5. Any details of relevant work experience.
  6. Two letters of recommendations (in confidence) from university professors who are directly acquainted with and knowledgeable of the work of the student. The professors can send these directly to the awards co-ordinator.
  7. Electronic format (e.g., pdf) is preferred; however, hard-copy material will be accepted.
  8. Receipt of submissions will not be acknowledged unless requested. Acknowledgement when requested will be by e-mail
Additionnal background
This scholarship is designed to encourage and support eligible students toward establishing or furthering a career in the field of meteorology. The Weather Network/MétéoMédia are wholly owned and operated by Pelmorex Media Inc, Canada’s leading private sector weather information provider. Pelmorex is committed to the personal growth of Canada’s future meteorologists. The scholarship is offered to a female student, and provides educational assistance in pursuit of a career in the field of meteorology. The Weather Network/ MétéoMédia makes an annual donation of $1,500 to CMOS who coordinates the selection process.
